HTM
Originally from Minnesota, I made my way to San Diego after graduating from the University of Nevada, Reno. I come from a family of educators and I've always had a passion for working with kids. This school year marks my first experience in an after-school program, which I'm incredibly excited about! When I'm not engaging with the students, I love to stay active—whether it's practicing yoga, hitting the slopes for some snowboarding, or more recently, learning how to surf! At the end of the day, you can find me cozying up with a good book, enjoying a little quiet time.
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! We hope you all had a joyful holiday season and are excited for a fresh start in 2025. Our afterschool program is ready to kick off the year with more enriching experiences, fun activities, and exciting opportunities for your child to grow, learn, and connect with their peers. Here’s a peek at what we have planned for this month.
Arts & Crafts: Creating & Crafting
Winter to spring bridge is a great time for plenty of creative projects. This new year, we’ll be focusing on crafts to embrace the seasons. January’s crafts include:
-
New Year's Resolutions: Help students think about their goals for the new year by creating a vision or resolution poster. They can decorate their poster with inspiring words, pictures from magazines, and drawings.
-
Custom Tote Bags: Students can design their own tote bags using fabric markers or paint. With their newly equipped tote bag, our hope is kids will invite a newly organized and prepared energy along with the new year!
-
Time Capsule: Have students write down their New Year’s resolutions or goals for the year and seal them inside a "time capsule" (small box or jar). They can decorate the container with winter-themed designs and a message to themselves to open at the end of next year!
Clubs & Enrichment: New Year, New Clubs!
We’re kicking off 2025 with some exciting new clubs that will help your child explore different interests, develop new skills, and make friends in the process! Here’s a sneak peek at the clubs we’re offering this month:
• Clubs and Enrichment
We’re excited to continue offering a wide range of clubs for students to dive into their interests, discover new hobbies, and build skills outside the classroom. Here’s a look at the exciting new clubs we’re rolling out this semester:
• Boxing Club
Are you ready to throw some punches and build both physical and mental strength? In Boxing Club, students will learn the basics of boxing, including techniques, footwork, and fitness exercises. It’s a great way to boost confidence, improve coordination, and stay in shape while learning discipline in a fun, supportive environment. Whether you’re looking to get fit or just try something new, this club is for you!
• Deep Diving Club
Ever wondered what lies beneath the ocean's surface? In Deep Diving Club, we’ll explore the fascinating world of underwater ecosystems, diving techniques, and marine life. While we won’t be heading into the water just yet, as kids will begin their club at The Plunge located in Mission Bay! We'll dive into the science and wonders of the ocean through discussions, and videos. Get ready for an ocean of knowledge and adventure in this club!
• Knot Tying Club
Knot Tying Club is all about mastering the art of knots, ropes, and practical skills that can come in handy in everyday life. Students will learn how to tie various knots used in sailing, climbing, camping, and even decorative projects. Whether you're interested in survival skills, crafting, or just love to learn something new, this club will give you the skills to tie things together—literally!
• Applied Interests Club
Applied Interests Club is where curiosity meets real-world skills. This club is designed for those who enjoy exploring topics like Dungeons & Dragons, Intro to Calculus, or other interests that go beyond the usual school subjects. Whether you're interested in strategy games, solving complex puzzles, or diving into the world of abstract thinking, this club provides a space for like-minded students to come together, challenge their minds, and explore unique topics. It’s perfect for those who like to think outside the box, engage with new ideas, and dive deep into their passions.
New Clubs This MontH
-
Adventure Sketchers: This club is perfect for kids who love to draw and explore! Students will take inspiration from their outdoor adventures and sketch the world around them, from nature scenes to urban landscapes.
-
Outdoor Adventure Club: For students who love to get active outside, this club will focus on outdoor skills, team-building activities, and environmental exploration. We’ll organize hikes, nature walks, and eco-challenges to get kids connecting with the great outdoors.
-
Cultural Exploration Club: This club is all about celebrating the world’s diverse cultures through crafts, food, music, and traditions. Each week, we’ll explore a different country, giving kids a taste of life across the globe.
-
Fitness & Fun: Get ready to move! This new club will focus on fun fitness activities like yoga, dance, and team sports—all designed to keep kids active, healthy, and having fun.
Spring Sports
Our sports teams are gearing up for a fun and exciting season in 2025. This month, we’ll be focusing on Boys basketball and volleyball, and girls basketball. Whether your child is a seasoned athlete or just starting out, our sports programs are designed to promote teamwork, discipline, and healthy competition.
We’re also introducing mini “challenge tournaments” this month where students can participate in fun, friendly competitions, from tug-of-war to relay races, and other friendly pick up games!
Looking Ahead
As we settle into the new year, we’re thrilled to introduce a range of exciting new initiatives for our afterschool program. We’ll be welcoming new enrichment activities, and adding more community-oriented projects to our schedule. Stay tuned for updates and more info at a later date!
Thank you for your continued support in making this program a wonderful experience for all of our students. Together, we can make 2025 a year of creativity, learning, and fun!
